Save the Children

  • About

Right now, many of the UK's poorest children start primary school struggling to speak in full sentences, express themselves or understand simple instructions from parents, teachers, and friends.

These are the skills children need so they can thrive when they get to the classroom. Evidence shows that children who start behind often struggle to catch up. They are much less likely to do well at school or to succeed in the world of work.

We work with families to narrow the gap between children living in poverty and their better off classmates. By focusing on early learning, we help make sure children across the UK realise their full potential. Over the last five years we have helped over 100,000 children in the UK get the best start at home and at school. Through our programmes, we support children from low-income families to get a better start in life. Through our campaigning and influencing work, we have a positive impact on millions more.

Every child, regardless of background, deserves the chance to make their mark on the world. Together, we can give every child in the UK the best start - and build a brighter future for us all.
